What are the best ways to care for and clean collectible figurines? You always display your collectible porcelain figurines in an enclosed curio cabinet, far from edges of shelves and away from curious children and pets, but how can you fight your collectibles' worst enemy - dust - without risking damage or breakage? Here are some tips for dusting and cleaning your figurines - but be sure to read and observe any special cleaning instructions that may have come with your figurines before trying any of these suggestions.
Dust figurines regularly with a clean, never-used, soft-bristled dry artist's paint brush, makeup brush, or feather duster. Small paint brushes are excellent for getting built-up dust and dirt out of small corners of the figurine.
Figurines with textured, matte surfaces may be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth gently applied.
Soak figurines in lukewarm mild soapy water once or twice a year, making sure not to scrub or rub them. First, put a towel in the sink bottom to provide a cushion against breakage. Let each piece air dry.
Be especially careful with figurines with small flowers or other delicate details that may be individually attached. Avoid soaking them in water for a long period of time since the warm water may loosen the adhesives.
Do not use commercial glass cleaner on porcelain figurines.
